We all have our own personality and style. Our homes should reflect that individuality. A space comes alive when it reflects the client while bringing both comfort and style. Our homes are not showrooms or catalogs. They are a respite from the external world. Our job as designers is to draw out your personality and taste and create it in your space. We are confident working in any style- from traditional through contemporary. We work well with others and enjoy working on a team which often includes architects, contractors and other talented trades’ people.
It began over 30 years ago with a balancing act! Here I was, fresh from my interior design major at SDSU with four young teenagers. I wasn’t ready to leave them alone and was sure no one would hire me if I declared “My kids come first!” I jumped at the chance to sublet a studio space from another designer in Sorrento Valley and Carol Spong Interior Design was born.
My mentor was a professional ASID member and encouraged me to join the American Society of Interior Designers. In quick succession, I passed the two day NCIDQ (Nat’l Council for Interior Design Qualification) exam, joined the San Diego Chapter of ASID and began to meet the local design community.
I love being on jobsites, seeing changes happen, managing projects, interacting with craftspeople and having clients be thrilled with the results. It is truly a joy fulfilling a client’s vision.
Over the years, my designs have received many awards including numerous ASID Design Excellence Awards, San Diego Home & Garden magazine Kitchen of the Year and first place in Designer’s Showcase House. My designs are also found in both locally and national publications such as Better Homes & Gardens, San Diego Magazine, San Diego Home and Garden Lifestyle, and Sunset Books.
Northern California was my home until I came to San Diego to attend SDSU School of Art, Design, and Art History. Upon getting my Bachelors of Fine Arts with an emphasis in Interior Design, I decided to stay in San Diego and plant roots. My specialties are in residential interior design and styling which are enriched by the diversity of my upbringing in the Bay Area. I love the thrill of discovering the best space planning solution or right piece of furniture for a client. When not designing, I can be found knitting, sewing and chasing my two little ones around.
